Food Drop Donations Coordinator (phone-based position)

Food Drop was launched by Indy Hunger Network in 2017 as a community-based project focused on waste reduction and feeding Hoosiers in need. When food distributors, truck drivers, and logistics companies have a rejected load of non-perished food items that they seek to donate to local hunger relief agencies, Food Drop provides them the communications channel for how and where to donate. Food Drop is currently seeking a Food Drop Donations Coordinator, a volunteer phone-based position. Volunteers will be on call to receive phone calls from truck drivers and dispatchers who have food loads to donate, and volunteers will make arrangements for those loads to be donated to a nearby food bank or warehouse (using information provided by Food Drop). A Food Drop Donations Coordinator will volunteer, at most, a few hours per week within the general operating hours of 7 am-9 pm. Additionally, we ask that volunteers be near their phones and available to receive calls on a daily basis. Prior to joining Food Drop and receiving calls as the Food Drop Donations Coordinator, we will provide a 1-hour training. This training will cover how to collect and compile donation data and provides a thorough review of the program. Lastly, volunteers are eligible to receive partial reimbursement of their phone bill based on their involvement with Food Drop.
