Accounting Volunteer / Intern

Accounting Interns (and volunteers) have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the nonprofit sector. The Accounting Intern can expect to work under the supervision of our Controller. The Controller is responsible for nonprofit and grant accounting duties payroll and more. The Accounting Intern assists the Controller in maintaining bookkeeping analyzing actual financial data learning more about bookkeeping software while taking on projects with other accounting activities. We are looking for an individual who is responsible dependable has good time management and can work well on their own.This internship/volunteer position is designed to be educational as well as practical. In this position the intern/volunteer will learn to use the skills they have acquired in school with opportunities to apply them in a professional setting. Accounting Interns will gain a better understanding of the Controller role in the nonprofit setting and be better prepared to work in the nonprofit accounting field.

Time Commitment: 6 hours minimum-one day/week

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Shadowing controller as they perform their duties
  • Assisting with filing data entry and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial documentsWorking with bookkeeping software
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information with integrity and honesty
  • Learning how to work as part of the accounting team to compile and analyze data track information and support the company or clients
  • Taking on any additional tasks or projects to learn more about accounting and office operations
  • Assisting with general bookkeeping grant reporting grant accounting and nonprofit accounting procedure
  • Complete special projects as needed and other duties assignedTrack and submit time-sheets and mileage forms

Required Qualifications:Must be actively working towards a bachelor's or Master's in Accounting,Aptitude for math, Proficiency with computers, High level of efficiency accuracy and responsibility
Preferred Requirements:Accounting Degree, Junior or Senior pursuing Accounting Degree, Experience in the accounting field prior to this position
