Star+ Mentor Opportunity - Virtual Volunteer

At its core, Starfish Initiative is a college access and readiness program that succeeds through personable and empowering mentorships. Our college-educated Mentors help our Scholars to take ownership of their educational pathway starting their freshman year. As a Star+ Mentor, you will be paired with a small group of 3-5 Scholars throughout their first semester of high school. During this time, we hope that you will utilize your experiences and knowledge to have discussions with your Scholars about SMART goals, communication skills, self-advocacy, and many more factors that will be impacting them as they transition to high school and begin their journey with mentorship. Ultimately, we hope for you to be a support for them by assisting in character development and enabling them to start gaining skills and comfort with a mentor.

To our scholars, our Mentors are the people who stand beside them, believe in them, and help them achieve their vision of success. In your semester commitment, we ask that you and your Scholars meet virtually for five sessions throughout the semester, with meetings taking place roughly every three weeks. Additionally, we ask that you do a quick check-in with them on the off weeks and complete a log of each of your sessions. However, we will be here to support you every step of the way. Upon completion of a background check, we will set up a training with you to cover our mentoring model, review topics that you will discuss during your meetings, and answer any questions you have about this exciting opportunity. You will also be assigned to a member of our staff that will have scheduled check-in calls throughout the semester and will support you in any way necessary.
